The winter break seems to be a continuation of the previous year. With many projects in the club, on going, certain members have keep themselves extremely busy during the cold period. Currently on the go are, An MGF rolling restoration, A TF Repair, A TR6 (non MG) A rover Mini, and a V8 Sebring. All proper interesting stuff, as they say around these parts!
Shelsley Walsh Breakfast Run 13.3.16
The first of the season, which, as per usual was fully booked up. Always an interesting venue to visit, especially on the breakfast runs due to the vast array of vehicles that people bring along. Also on offer was a full English if you could pull yourself away from the motors.
Drive it Day 24.5.16
National drive it day takes place every year, as the proverbial kick up the rear to enthusiasts far and wide. This year the destination of Toddington Railway Station was selected, so with the aid of Cliff’s notes we set out. And first Island in everyone got lost! Cheating we continued the journey via sat nav and finally got to the destination. Not made welcome by the garden centre, (bit miserable due to an event going on behind it apparently) we moved on to Bourton on the Water. Where some lunch was sought and some walking was done. As usual the village was very busy, with celebrations from the Queens 90th still in flow. A good day was had by all.
Goodwood Revival 9th-10th-11th September
The weekend was organised by Les Jones, six club members, Les & Len Jones, who took Rob Thomas, and Martin and Dan Jones, no relation, who took Keith, drove down on Friday 9th September for the Annual Goodwood Revival Historic Racing event, being joined by Rod & Karen Downes, who took their caravan.
Staying at the Novotel Hotel in Southampton, we had an early departure on Saturday morning, by coach, for a pick up in Portsmouth and then on to the Goodwood circuit. Saturday was very wet but made for great racing, very exciting watching the saloons drifting ‘sideways on’ through the bends. The motor cycles were also quite spectacular, considering their age, one being a 1926 Brough Superior.
On Sunday the weather was much better, we didn’t have to avoid the umbrellas as on the previous day!! We had the opportunity to go under the tunnel onto the infield for a walk around the paddock for a closer look at the cars and motorbikes, and also the vintage aircraft.
All in all it was a great couple of days, a chance to go for a meal and a pint with the others and have a walk around the town of Southampton. So thanks Les for putting it all together. KH
